With projects spanning the globe, Knot’s passion lies in shaping the human experience of place and reinforcing the natural systems that sustain us. We are specialists in Ecological Analysis and Planning, Landscape Architecture, and Experiential Graphic Design. Our work is adaptive, sensitive, and research-driven. Our team works across disciplines to identify and synthesize creative tensions in service to our design principles of exploration, collaboration, entanglement, ecologies and stewardship.

Margaret Drew

Margaret Drew is a Portland chapter co-chair.

As a graphic designer at Mayer/Reed, Margaret Drew brings an incredible enthusiasm for design and its ability to connect people to one another despite differences in language, culture and environments. She strives to create visually captivating graphics that establish identity, attract people or lead them in the right direction. She is particularly interested in design’s role in creating inclusive environments since she rides a motorized scooter for mobility.

Sara Van Dyke

As Ankrom Moisan’s Brand Studio Lead (Art Director), Sara Van Dyke directs print, web, and large-scale projects across the North West. Since joining the firm in 2014, Sara Van Dyke artistry and precision as a graphic designer, along with her background in fine art, have integrated seamlessly with the first architecture, interiors, and urban design disciplines. She has built signage, environmental graphics, wayfinding, and large-scale art installations as a deliverable for clients--winning recognition for the firm as well as repeat clients.

Kenn Compton

Kenn Compton spent his formative years in Asheville, NC. In the shadow of the Blue Ridge Mountains he experienced a rich educational environment and so was able to graduate from high school in only four years. Growing up surrounded by craftsmen, storytellers and folk artists profoundly influenced his creative growth. In only his second year of formal education, one of Kenn's illustrations took 1st place in the prestigious Biltmore Elementary School PTA Invitational. That inspired the drawing, entitled “Yellow Ducky,”  and is now part of the permanent collection of his mother.

During his 30 + years as a graphic designer, Kenn has done time in some of the more important creative groups in the city, including 18 years at Duke Energy, where he eventually worked his way up to the much-envied role of International Logo Cop. From the

Selen Imamoglu

Selen Imamoglu is currently pursuing her Master's in Exhibition and Experiential Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City. Selen Imamoglu graduated from the Department of Interior Architecture and Environmental Design at Bilkent University with high honor degree and did her internship in the commercial design industry.

Gabe Cain

Gabe Cain is Manager of Business Development for Benson Signs. Benson Signs concentrates on connecting people to places. Benson understands that in increasingly crowded environments and changing societies, they see signs as a critical tool for shaping, defining, and organizing human experiences. They are a full-service, environmental design, in-house manufacturer, operating in a 110,000+ square foot facility with a national preferred installation network and has over 180 years of combined experience.

Gabe Cain is responsible for developing and implementing strategies to cultivate and secure long-term, non-multifamily signage relationships at Benson Signs.

Steve Pinkston

Steve Pinkston founded Steve Pinkston + Others, Inc. (SP+O) in 1980 as a multi-disciplinary graphic design studio focusing on the planning, creation and production of superior quality design solutions for marketing programs. In 1994, Mr. Pinkston added the discipline of environmental graphic design to SP+O.

Heather Novak-Peterson

Heather Novak-Peterson, Associate AIA, SEGD, leads HGA’s EG Studio as Senior Environmental Graphic Designer and Associate Vice President in their Minneapolis office. She is an artist and visual storyteller focusing on designing branded environments and products for new and existing clients across HGA’s markets, including corporate, healthcare, and education. With more than 15 years of experience, Novak-Peterson has created custom art, graphics, branding, finishes, signage, and products for corporate offices, retail stores, restaurants, and residential buildings locally and nationally.
