SEGD Academic Task Force
The SEGD Academic Task Force advances experiential design education through organizing the annual Academic Summit, reviewing research submissions, and shaping core competencies for emerging professionals.
SEGD Academic Task Force
The SEGD Academic Task Force brings together global educators, researchers, and practitioners to advance curriculum innovation, research, and professional practice. Through initiatives like the annual Academic Summit, the SEGD Academic Task Force provides a platform for sharing groundbreaking research and fostering collaboration across disciplines. Focus areas include diversity, equity, accessibility, inclusion, and student outreach.
Academic Summit
The SEGD Academic Summit is a dynamic forum for exploring trends in design education research, showcasing innovative projects, and discussing curriculum development. Originally launched as an in‑person event held the day before the SEGD Conference, it has since moved to a virtual format to broaden participation and accessibility. Presenters are selected through an anonymous, rigorous peer‑reviewed process led by the Academic Task Force, ensuring a diverse lineup of high‑quality research and creative work. Designed for academics, students, researchers, and professionals, the SEGD Academic Summit offers an opportunity to engage in multi‑level conversations that help forge pathways forward for diversity and innovation in design education and practice. This free, two-half-day virtual event is hosted each June.
Communication + Place
Communication + Place, SEGD’s official journal of experiential design, showcases research by academics and professionals advancing the field. This digital publication highlights creative research, curriculum innovation, and user‑centered design studies from students, academics, researchers and professionals, offering a deeper exploration of the ideas introduced during the Academic Summit. Communication + Place is published each Fall, following the Academic Summit.
