W.L. Gore Capabilities Center

Merit Award
W.L. Gore Capabilities Center, Carbone Smolan Agency

The Gore story is enormously complex and rich with information. The developer and manufacturer of high-performance fluorocarbon polymers (including GORE-TEX®) assembled a multidisciplinary team of designers, architects, and fabricators to help translate the science behind its innovative products into a visible and understandable brand expression.

Carbone Smolan led the design and development of Gore’s new 6,000-sq.-ft.

Wilson Sporting Goods Headquarters

Merit Award
Wilson Sporting Goods Headquarters, Gensler

Before beginning the design of Wilson Sporting Goods’ headquarters, the Gensler team undertook an extensive analysis of the company’s existing workplace, studying the way employees interact, how they feel in their space, and how the work flows. The goals were to align with the energy and teamwork common to all sports, and promote creativity and innovation in all departments. The renovated office reflects the passion of its employees, increases recruitment and retention, and educates visitors about the Wilson brand.

Yale University Art Gallery Signage

Merit Award
Yale University Art Gallery Signage, Open

Louis Kahn’s 1953 Yale University Art Gallery building is one of the first examples of Kahn’s distinctive style. Located across the street from the British Art Center, one of Kahn’s last buildings, the Gallery (known as the Kahn building) is an architectural landmark in the city of New Haven. As part of a decade-long restoration by Polshek Partnership Architects, Open developed a comprehensive signage system guided by two basic principles. First, all of the signage needed to be reversible so that the original condition of the building could be restored.
