2020 SEGD Global Design Award Honor Award, New Glass Now by Studio Joseph

As we kick off Women’s History Month in March, SEGD would like to take a moment to celebrate the incredible work of our talented women design leaders. The following are a few of the SEGD Global Design Award-winning projects completed by women-owned firms since 2020. 

As you gather inspiration from these projects, don’t forget to submit your own work to the 2024 SEGD Global Design Awards. Submissions are due no later than Thursday, February 29th at 11:59pm ET. Studio Joseph

Studio Joseph is an award-winning architecture and exhibition design studio founded by Wendy Evans Joseph, FSEGD.

Welcome Galleries (2022 Merit Award)
The Welcome Center at the National Building Museum fosters our understanding of the built environment, demonstrating that the ever-growing human population has impacted our planet and climate. 

Americans (2021 Merit Award)
“Americans” is an ongoing exhibition at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC. This 2021 SEGD award winning exhibition project was led by Studio Joseph, graphic design by NR2154, and media table and website design by Bluecadet. 

New Glass Now (2020 Honor Award)
100 artists, designers, and architects from more than 25 countries brought glass to life in this immersive exhibition featuring objects, lighting, videos, and multimedia installations.

2022 SEGD Global Design Award Merit Award, Welcome Galleries by Studio Joseph
Studio Matthews

Studio Matthews is a Seattle-based, woman-owned small business founded by Kristine Matthews, who is a member of this year’s SEGD Global Design Awards Jury. It is a practice of designers, teachers, and makers. 

Seattle Convention Center, Summit Building (2023 Merit Award)
Embedded throughout the new Seattle Convention Center are stories of the Pacific Northwest, forming part of a comprehensive wayfinding and storytelling scheme.

Louisiana Children’s Museum (2020 Honor Award)
The beloved Louisiana Children’s Museum was housed for 30 years in the Warehouse District of New Orleans before expanding to a stunning new 8.5-acre site in City Park.

2020 SEGD Global Design Award Honor Award, Seattle Convention Center by Studio Matthews
Dome Collective

Lynn Kiang and Katie Lee founded Dome Collective in 2014. Based in Brooklyn, New York, Dome is an award-winning experience design studio that builds complex physical and digital spaces with impact. 

Revealing Krishna: Journey to Cambodia’s Sacred Mountain (2022 Merit Award)
A bold exhibition at the Cleveland Museum of Art brought together ancient artifacts with immersive digital technologies to illuminate the histories of enigmatic sculptures.

Seat at the Table (2021 Sylvia Harris Award, 2021 Honor Award)
This exhibition, located inside the atrium of Philadelphia’s Kimmel Center, recognized the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment and asked the question “Where are we now?”
