2026 SEGD Xlab New York Speakers + Events

See everything planned for 2026 SEGD Xlab New York, July 22-23. Presented by DCL and Nanolumens

Xlab 2026 is a creative gathering about joy, care, and making things that matter when everything is a lot.

Over two days in New York City, we’re stepping outside the traditional conference model to create space for honest conversation, creative experimentation, and meaningful connection. Through behind-the-scenes tours, participatory workshops, and thought-provoking talks, Xlab brings together designers, artists, strategists, technologists, and storytellers to explore what remains uniquely human in a rapidly changing world.

From Manhattan to Brooklyn, this year’s program invites you to reflect, reconnect, and reimagine your practice alongside a community of creative thinkers committed to shaping more meaningful futures.

Wed, July 22

Day 1: New York as Laboratory

Pre-Event Tours + Workshops

1-5 pm | Manhattan

New York City becomes the first venue for Xlab. Through a series of curated behind-the-scenes experiences, attendees will explore creative spaces, meet the people shaping culture and design, and gain access to environments rarely available to the public.

Designed to inspire new perspectives and meaningful conversations, these tours set the stage for the ideas, experiments, and connections that continue throughout the event.

More options to be announced soon.

Opening Reception

5:00–7:00 pm | Microsoft Garage
300 Lafayette Street, New York, NY

After a day of exploration across New York City, join fellow attendees, speakers, and industry leaders at Microsoft Garage for Xlab’s opening reception. Designed as a space for connection, conversation, and creative exchange, the evening offers an opportunity to reflect on the day’s experiences, meet new collaborators, and begin the discussions that will continue throughout the symposium.

Thurs., July 23

Day Two: The Symposium at BRIC

The symposium unfolds through four interconnected movements, each building on the conversations before it and guiding participants from reflection to experimentation to possibility.

Morning: The Weight

An honest reckoning with the realities of the present moment—and the role design can play in fostering hope, meaning, and shared understanding.

Midday: The Counter-Move

Reflections on curiosity, judgment, and creative practice in an age of AI, information overload, and constant acceleration.

Afternoon: The Experiment

Conversations and workshops exploring productive friction, creative risk-taking, and what experimentation can teach us about making work that lasts.

Closing: Joy as Practice

A closing keynote reflection on belonging, memory, and the power of design to create connection, celebration, and enduring meaning.

Closing Party

5:30–7:30 pm | TBA

Join us as we close out Xlab 2026 with an evening of conversation, celebration, and connection. Following a day of reflection, experimentation, and creative exchange, the closing reception offers an opportunity to continue the dialogue, reconnect with fellow attendees, and celebrate the ideas and relationships sparked throughout the event.

Raise a glass with speakers, colleagues, and new collaborators as we conclude two inspiring days in New York City and carry the conversation forward.

Location details will be announced soon.

Hold Your Spot

Xlab is where SEGD goes to reconnect: to experiment, to make things that don’t fully work yet, to ask the questions out loud that usually only get asked in the car on the way home from a project. It is built for the designer who still gets moved by a well-made thing, for the studio figuring out how to hold onto craft while everything accelerates, and for all of us who have been quietly wondering whether joy is still available to us in our work.

Spots are limited, and this community fills them fast. Register now, and stay tuned for more tour announcements, social events, and programming details coming soon.
