Experiential Design in the Wellington Region
Famous for its creativity and cultural vibrancy, Wellington is a hub for innovative design and experiential projects. Nestled between hills and a picturesque harbor, the city’s natural beauty provides a unique backdrop for experiential design.
Notable projects include “Urban Tales: Shadow Typography,” created by Katie Bevin. This time-based, site-specific installation uses environmental typography and shadows to create a dynamic and interactive experience in Wellington’s Waitangi Park. Another key project is Te Mātāwai, which features tactile signage using locally sourced timber to blend sustainability with cultural storytelling.
Join us to explore new trends, collaborate on exciting projects, and help shape the future of design in Welly. Welcome to SEGD Wellington!
SEGD Chapter Chair Awardees
SEGD recognizes award-winning people and projects who, through their commitment to human-centered, innovative design in the built environment, set standards of excellence for experience design. In 2018, Nick Kapica, co-chair of the SEGD Wellington Chapter, received the SEGD Chapter Chair Award for his outstanding leadership and contributions to the SEGD community. As Design Lead for Wellington City Council and an advocate for design thinking within urban environments, Nick played a key role in organizing successful events like Off Grid 17 and Off Grid 18, which brought international design discussions to the southern hemisphere. His efforts in building the SEGD community in Wellington and fostering innovation and collaboration were recognized through this prestigious award.
