The goal of this exhibit for Australia's leading contemporary craft organization was to demystify the graphic design process by exploring the work of designer Vince Frost. The work comprised editorial and magazine design to corporate identity, environmental graphics, and interactive design.
Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum is an iconic facility sited in an old power station. Since opening in 1988, the museum’s original wayfinding system had been added to many times, becoming fragmented and no longer meeting functional requirements or communicating the appropriate image for a contemporary, dynamic museum.
Frost Design was invited to design a new internal wayfinding system, integrating identification and directional signage to facilities, temporary exhibits, and the museum’s permanent collection.
The design solution for this boutique hairdressing salon is deceptively simple. Working with a small budget, the idea was to unify the long, tunnel-like interior space by wrapping the salon's name diagonally up the walls and across the ceiling.
Frost* Design was one of five creative directors commissioned by the Australian Institute of Architects to curate the Australian exhibition for the 11th International Architecture Exhibition at the Venice Biennale in September 2008. Held in the Australian Pavilion in the Giardini, the exhibition drew a huge audience including influential architects, industry specialists, and diverse audiences from around the world.
The inner city suburb of Fortitude Valley in Brisbane, Australia, had for many years been the home of venues that nurtured such musical talent as the Saints, the Go Betweens, Powderfinger, Savage Garden, Keith Urban, and the Bee Gees. Now internationally known for its live music and nightclubs, the area's creative arts community and Chinatown precinct have drawn youth and lifestyle fashion retailers, commercial tenants, and significant residential development back to “the Valley.”
St. Michael’s Grammar School, situated in the heart of St. Kilda Melbourne, is a private school renowned for its culture of creativity and innovation. Like its surrounding community, the school is both historic and cosmopolitan.
Macquarie Group, Australia’s largest investment bank, needed a comprehensive signage and graphics program for its new headquarters in Sydney. This forward-thinking bank values transparency, a global outlook, and collaborative work behavior, and sought to express those brand attributes in its physical space.
ASICS is the world’s third largest shoe company. Their new Sydney offices required a graphic overlay that captured the technical aspects that ASICS footwear and apparel are renowned for.
Working in collaboration with WMK Architecture, THERE Design (Sydney) was asked to highlight the company’s dual focus on movement and technology, providing a stimulating environment while reminding staff and visitors of the company’s core brand values.
Wild: Amazing Animals in a Changing World, a permanent exhibit at the Melbourne Museum, presents the fragile state of Australian biodiversity, environment, and climate through the display of more than 700 animals from a natural history collection.
