A Successful Walking Tour Event

A big “thank you” to everyone who joined us for the walking tour of the University of Texas at Austin campus. We had a great time and enjoyed some wonderful pieces of EGD.

Thanks also to our members who played key roles in the design or fabrication of the tour projects – including Frauke Bartels (UT-Austin), Curtis Roberts (fd2s), and Grady Brown (iZone Imaging) – who provided some direction and great information.

Curtis Roberts

Curtis Roberts is Design Principal and co-owner at fd2s.

Curtis Roberts thinks better branding and wayfinding (when and where appropriate) = a better, more engaging experience.

Curtis was born in Memphis, TN, but grew up in the thriving Coastal Bend metropolis of Beeville, TX (pop. 14, 586). Upon graduating with a bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin’s School of Architecture, he began working with fd2s as a design intern. He now serves as the firm’s design principal and is co-owner.

Welcome to the new Austin chapter of SEGD!

Austin Chapter

We kicked off the chapter in early December 2013 with a social at Gibson Street Bar. Thanks to everyone who attended and chipped in ideas for the chapter’s first full year.

As the only SEGD chapter in Texas, we are just getting on our feet and hope to inspire Austin-area designers and professionals to join SEGD and the chapter so that we can make this wonderful organization valuable to us locally. In addition, we are hoping to encourage others in the region to form local SEGD chapters, in hopes that we can establish more of a state-wide EGD community.

University of Texas at Austin Wayfinding

Signing the “Model Village”

A new wayfinding program helps the University of Texas regain its sense of place and open its arms to the Austin community.

“The finest university campuses in the world have always been places—model villages, to borrow Thomas Jefferson’s notion—where communal cohesion and strength are derived as much from the physical experience as from      any philosophy or values that may be espoused.”

--Robert Berdahl, former president of the University of Texas at Austin
