The inaugural World Architecture Festival (WAF) London event was held at the Ambika P3 space at Westminster University in June 2015.
The client’s brief was to design and establish a branded environment and event design that would serve as a satellite event to the main WAF Festival in Singapore. This new event was a chance to showcase all of the entries for this year’s WAF Awards in a new city, with 375 projects displayed in total.
Finding one’s way through the streets of New York when coming up out of the subway or walking through an unfamiliar neighborhood can be confusing, even for the most seasoned New Yorker. WalkNYC is a new program of pedestrian maps that makes it easier for New York’s 8.5 million residents and 50 million yearly visitors to navigate the city streets.
In fiscal year 2013, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS) began withholding a portion of hospital payments based on their performance. CMS makes adjustments to measures and domain weights each year to reflect an emphasis on those areas most in need of improved performance. Four domains will impact up to 2% of a hospital’s Medicare reimbursement in FFY 2017: process of care (core measures), patient experience (HCAHPS), efficiency of care and outcomes.
Faced with a 77-meter-long red brick wall between Tongji University and the Siping Community of Shanghai, the university’s Public Design Lab, part of the College of Design & Innovation, wondered what kind of experience they could create for passersby. By leveraging the sidewalk and the unique raised pattern of the brick, the team conceived simple graphics that change as pedestrians walked by—creating a different experience from left to right and right to left.

For 125 years, the Homestake Mine in Lead, South Dakota, founded by the mining magnate George Hearst, was the largest and deepest mine in the Western Hemisphere, and the most productive gold mine in recorded history. In the end, more than 40 million ounces of gold were extracted from the massive underground complex. The mine ceased operations in 2002, but in recent years its deep underground chambers have become home the Sanford Underground Research Facility and some of the most sophisticated physics experiments in the world.
To honor donors and Board of Trustees members for their investment in the college, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago commissioned Media Objectives at Valerio Dewalt Train to create an engaging donor wall in the main lobby of the new LeRoy Neiman Center. Inspired by the school’s core values—rigor, experimentation, playfulness and invention—the team designed a donor recognition element that is itself a work of art.
When Hurricane Sandy devastated New York in 2012, Rockaway Beach in Queens lost much of its iconic boardwalk. In 2015, as part of the ongoing restoration of the area, the first sections of a new boardwalk were completed and reopened to the public with a more resilient design that replaces the traditional wooden planks with steel-reinforced concrete.
