Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership (New York) announced that the Children's Library Discovery Center at the Queens Library, for which it produced the interior enhancements and environmental graphics, has been selected as the 2013 New York Library Association – Public Libraries Section Building Award for a library serving a population of 20,000 plus.

Studio SC (Seattle) designed a new wayfinding program for the City of Tacoma, Wash. Industrial aluminum L-beams with wide messaging panels provide clear, vehicular directional signage and are augmented by historic images and information enjoyable at the pedestrian level. The images highlight a true story that occurred at the location of each sign.

The signs are treated with an anti-graffiti
coating and stand 13 feet tall, ensuring high visibility and durability. Installation is underway and will be complete in October.

Chinese cover of Chris Calori’s book, Signage and Wayfinding Design

Calori & Vanden-Eynden (New York) Partner Chris Calori’s book, Signage and Wayfinding Design, is now published in a Chinese language version, available online at Amazon.cn. A second English-language edition is underway and will be co-authored by Chris Calori
and C&VE Partner David Vanden-Eynden. The second edition of Signage and Wayfinding Design will contain updated text and images and will be full color throughout; it should be released in early 2015.

Carbone Smolan Agency

Carbone Smolan Agency (New York) created a website for D.C. law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, a firm with more than 800 lawyers in seven regions. The new site emphasizes Akin Gump’s distinguishing characteristic: entrepreneurship. A modular design that distills information in a flexible way allows for customization around each of 18 practice areas. This approach helps “future-proof” the site in an increasingly competitive and global arena.

Creative Sign Designs

Creative Sign Designs (Tampa, Fla.) completed a uniquely collaborative project between owner, architect, and creative to create signage for Calvary Assembly of God in Winter Park, Fla. The project began with the architect’s concept of the sign; the intent was to tie into the blue stained glass in the church. After much experimenting with the inner construction and placement of the LEDs, a seamless design and even lighting across the glass were achieved.

Gnu Group completed a donor recognition program for the Granada Theater

GNU Group (Lafayette, Calif.) completed a donor recognition program for the Granada Theater in Santa Barbara, which reopened after a monumental restoration. The formal acknowledgment of contributions was the last piece of the resurrection. The program seamlessly integrates functional displays and fulfills real and logistical requirements in recognizing contributors to the Santa Barbara Center for Performing Arts.
