KimakDesign (Orangeburg, N.Y.) has completed the design portion of a commission by Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx to create a four-section 9- by 100-foot-long digital print mural for the lobby of their new Hutch Ambulatory Care Center. The mural, focusing on nature themes of the Bronx including the Botanical Garden and the New York City borough's parks, is to be printed on glass by Skyline Design. The new medical center is slated to open in 2014.

Lucite International (Cordova, Tenn.), owner of the LuciteLux® acrylic brand, announced Eugene-based technology collective Light at Play is the winner of its inaugural JUST IMAGINE Awards. Light at Play’s design, called the Radiance Dome, features nearly 200 two-foot LuciteLux® Light Guide Panel (LGP) triangles equipped with LED lights that glow as they change color with music and movement. It was used as a 1,000-foot dance space at the 2013 Burning Man Festival.

Pentagram (New York) Partner Michael Gericke and his team designed a bold program of large-scale environmental graphics for the new U.S. headquarters of GlaxoSmithKline, the global pharmaceuticals and consumer healthcare company. Located in Philadelphia’s Navy Yard, the innovative “smart” workspace is 100% mobile: no one has an assigned desk, not even the company president. Pentagram’s iconic graphics help foster a spirit of connection for a new collaborative way of working.

Rockwell Group

Rockwell Group (New York) designed interiors for the newly opened Shinola store in Tribeca. The Detroit-based Shinola sells meticulously crafted, American-made bicycles, watches, leather goods, and notebooks. Rockwell’s design modeled the store after an urban general store, consistent with the neighborhood’s residential feel. The interior balances 1930s industrialism and clean minimalism to highlight the handcrafted beauty of Shinola’s products.

David Woody will be leaving his position as Design Director for the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago for a new role as Creative Director for DreamWorks studio in Glendale, Calif. He will be responsible for the creative management of DreamWorks’ new division called Global Location Based Entertainment. The division will leverage its significant library of intellectual property across a wide variety of media that are all location based (theme parks, restaurants, exhibitions, live arena shows, theatricals, resorts, cruise ships, retail stores, etc).


Arrowstreet (Boston, Mass.) named four new principals in the firm. The promotion of architects David Bois, Amy Korte, Sean Selby, and Larry Spang acknowledges their leadership roles and substantial contributions to the practice of architecture. Carbone Smolan Agency (New York) created a website for international law firm Winston & Strawn that balances their vast range of practice area depth with a bold vision for what the next 160 years might bring. A distinct visual style simplifies complicated statistics and immediately engages the firm's online audience. Elements such as infographics and topical videos communicate powerful messages in a compelling way.
