Pentagram - Aldo Group Truth or Dare Campaign

Pentagram (New York), working with the Aldo Group, has created a pop-up shop for the launch of Truth or Dare, the new shoe collection from music superstar Madonna. Installed at Selfridges London, the store design captures the line’s unique mix of pop and luxury in a stage-like display that features shoes in gilded cages. “Cages keep beautiful things in and dangerous things contained,” says Daniel Weil of Pentagram, who created the shop.

Lee. H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership

Lee H. Skolnick Architecture + Design Partnership (New York) announced that the Queens Library Discovery is the recipient of a 2012 MASterworks Award for Excellence in Architecture and Urban Design. Winner of a Best Neighborhood Catalyst Award, this collaboration with architecture firm 1100 Architects has won praise from its community as well as from the world of libraries and other places of informal learning.

Marcel Mächler completed carving at Loyola Marymount University

Marcel Mächler (Twin Peaks, Calif.) successfully completed V-groove carvings at the Centennial Wall of Loyola Marymount University and U-groove carvings, some of them in Greek, at the John McKay Center at University of Southern California. Upcoming projects include additional work at SOKA University (Aliso Viejo, Calif.) and quotation wall carvings at the George W. Bush Presidential Library in Dallas.

Square Peg Design

Square Peg Design (Oakland, Calif.) developed a comprehensive wayfinding and signing program for the Overseas Union Enterprise Bayfront project, a redevelopment of the former Overseas Union House in Singapore into an 18-story office block. The resulting signing and graphic design not only provides vital wayfinding information, but also adds a layer of branding and a sense of place.

Studio SC

Studio SC (Seattle) recently completed an environmental graphics program for the University of Washington’s Alumni Commons. Concurrent with the university’s sesquicentennial, the program highlights the past achievements and community impact of the university’s diverse alumni and looks proudly toward its future. Components include a timeline wall of past achievements, a People Wall featuring images and reflections from the UW community, and a backlit “Gold” wall with typographic statements about the university’s goals and values.

Traxon Technologies

Traxon Technologies (East Rutherford, N.J.) recently produced a project called “Anyone Who Has A Heart,” a modern lighting sculpture located at the main entrance of the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital. Artists Andrew Small and Steve Almond created this interactive art piece consisting of four rings of light backlit by Traxon’s LEDs, set in a large heart-like sculpture. Motion sensors initiate different illuminated colors and sequences when visitors walk around the installation.

Vista System

Vista System (Sarasota, Fla.) announced the addition of GreenSquare to the Vista family of signage solutions. GreenSquare, a young Australian company on the rise, uses modular components to create both standard and custom designed solutions. One of the signage solutions that stands out in the system is the office display application, which allows for an elegant table-top solution that is easy to position and update.

Alchemy Studio

Alchemy Studio (Maplewood, N.J.) recently began work on the preliminary building and exhibition planning for the new science center in Saudia Arabia. The Al-Qassim Science Center will be located in the Al-Qassim Province in the city of Buraydah.

The firm will help plan the layout of visitor spaces and exhibition areas and will also work on early designs for the exhibitions. Eventually work will include overseeing fabrication and installation.
