Meet the 2024 SEGD Exhibition + Experience Design Keynote Speaker: Dr. Lesley-Ann Noel
We are thrilled to announce Dr. Lesley-Ann Noel as the keynote speaker for the kick-off of our upcoming 2024 SEGD Exhibition + Experience Design event in Washington DC on June 20-21, 2024. Dr. Noel is a distinguished figure in the world of design, renowned for her contributions as a designer, researcher, and educator. She brings a rich blend of experience and insight to our symposium, embodying the transformative spirit of design in addressing social challenges.
In her keynote presentation, Dr. Noel will draw on her extensive research and teaching experience to discuss the pivotal role of design in catalyzing social change. Her insights promise to inspire and challenge our perceptions of the role designers play in shaping a more equitable society.
Dr. Noel holds a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design from Universidade Federal do Paraná in Brazil, complemented by a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago. She further advanced her expertise with a PhD in Design from North Carolina State University, where she currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Arts, Design, and Technology.
Beyond her academic accolades, Dr. Noel has been recognized for her service to the design field with honorary doctorates from the University of the Arts London and the Pacific Northwest College of Art. Her work has significantly influenced design education and practice, particularly through her publications. She is the author of “Design Social Change” and co-editor of “The Black Experience in Design,” both of which explore the intersection of design and social justice.
Looking ahead, Dr. Noel is set to join Ontario College of Art and Design as the Dean of Design in July 2024, marking another exciting chapter in her illustrious career.
