Luis is the General Manager of Bamboo U, the epicenter of the global bamboo movement. Trained as an architect in Mexico City and Chile, Luis brings over a decade of experience working with bamboo and natural materials on award-winning projects around the world—from the Four Seasons Naviva in Punta Mita to community housing in Kerala, India. His work blurs the boundaries between tradition and technology, merging handcraft, digital fabrication, augmented reality, and ecological design.

Bamboo U, in collaboration with renowned design firm IBUKU, has helped define what bamboo architecture can be. Their mission? To inspire and equip a new generation of designers to build a more sustainable world—starting with the materials we choose.

In this introductory session, Luis will open our eyes to the structural and aesthetic possibilities of bamboo. Whether you’re curious about its strength and adaptability or looking to rethink your material palette, this talk will offer both inspiration and actionable knowledge.
