As the 2024 SEGD Conference Experience Dallas continues into its second day, the focus shifts to Designing for Harmony and Innovation, a theme that will guide us through a day of thought-provoking sessions and inspirational talks. On Friday, September 27th, we’ll dive deep into the art of creating environments that balance nature, technology, and community to foster well-being and sustainability.
Day 2 Sessions and Speakers
Designing for Harmony: Blue Zones in Experience Design
Kicking off the day, Peter Slavenburg of NorthernLight will lead us on a journey through “Blue Zones,” areas of the world where people live longer, healthier lives. Through his session, Peter will explore how design can take inspiration from these communities by harmonizing art, technology, and nature to enhance both physical and mental well-being. From the BUGA Nature Exhibition in Germany to the upcoming Children’s Exhibit at the Perot Museum, Peter will share how designing with a holistic approach can inspire a healthier lifestyle and a deeper connection to nature.
Experience Design as a Call for Carbon Literacy
Following this, Premnath Sundharam of DLR Group will present a “Experience Design as a Call for Carbon Literacy,” addressing one of the most pressing challenges of our time: climate change. Premnath will emphasize how experience design can be a powerful tool in promoting sustainability and reducing carbon footprints through informed design practices.
NEXPO Networking Break
Take a break and enjoy a morning of networking with peers and innovators in the NEXPO hall. Grab a coffee, explore the latest tools and solutions, and connect with leaders who are shaping the future of design.
If Places Could Speak, What Would They Say?
Next, Upali Nanda, PhD from HKS will delve into the emotional narratives that spaces convey. Her keynote, “If Places Could Speak, What Would They Say?” invites us to consider how the environments we design communicate with their occupants, and how they can be shaped to tell stories that inspire, comfort, and connect people on a deeper level.
Multidimensional Patient Experiences
Rounding out the morning, David Taglione of ICRAVE, a Journey Company, will share insights into transforming sterile healthcare environments into immersive, multidimensional experiences. In his session, David will highlight ICRAVE’s innovative work with St. Jude and Memorial Sloan Kettering, reimagining healthcare spaces to feel less like hospitals and more like welcoming, hospitality-driven environments that reduce anxiety and promote healing.
Afternoon NEXPO Talks
The afternoon will feature a series of NEXPO Talks in the Regency Ballroom, hosted by Liz Griswold, SEGD’s Director of Education and Experience.
- 1:30-2:00 pm: Lauren Kelly from Wayfindit / Mustard Square LLC will take the stage to explore wayfinding and the power of digital tools in shaping environments.
- 2:00-2:30 pm: Jeff Everson from Daktronics will showcase the latest in digital display technologies, from sports arenas to public spaces.
- After a brief break, the talks will resume with a presentation by MOSS
- 3:30-4:00 pm: Paul Anderson from Peregrine OKB will offer insights on large-scale, complex projects in experience design.
EXP Mentor Meet Ups
Simultaneously, the EXP Mentor Meet Ups will be happening in the Oak Room, giving attendees a chance to connect with seasoned professionals for advice and mentorship throughout the afternoon.
NEXPO Reception and SEGD Global Design Awards
The day wraps up with the NEXPO Reception in the Regency Ballroom, a great opportunity to reflect on the day’s insights and connect with fellow attendees.
The highlight of the evening will be the 2024 SEGD Global Design Awards, hosted by the 2024 Chair, Nu Goteh, along with Cybelle Jones, SEGD’s CEO.
