Michael Courtney is Principal-in-Charge and Creative Director of Michael Courtney Design, Seattle.
Michael Courtney's professional background includes 31 years of experience specifically focused on creating persuasive branding and experiential graphics, identities, and print solutions for clients ranging from Fortune 100 companies to emerging businesses. They represent a wide spectrum of categories: healthcare, business-to-consumer, real estate, professional services, hospitality, entertainment, retail, higher education, business-to-business, and cultural, arts and civic institutions.
Since establishing Michael Courtney Design in 1992, he’s been building better design solutions for such clients as the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, PATH, Vulcan, Inc., University of Washington, Kemper Development Corporation, The Everett Clinic, Seattle City Light, University of Utah, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
His design work as an individual and as a team member has been honored with numerous awards for design excellence, including The Seattle Design Association (gold award), American Institute of Graphic Artists, New York Art Directors Club, Print Magazine, Society of Marketing Professional Services, and ICSC/International Council of Shopping Centers.
Michael has taught Design Thinking to elementary, middle, and high school teachers and students as an Artist-in-Residence for the National Endowment for the Arts, Washington State Arts Commission, and the Seattle Public Schools. He also created the Urban Environmental Education program “The Unseen City,” for the national’s largest teacher center.
His professional affiliations include SEGD, the Urban Land Institute, and the Society for College and University Planning. He earned a bachelor of architecture and design from Kansas State University.
