Design Education

What happens when experiential graphic designers take on the challenge of designing a school? The SEGD San Diego chapter learned first hand from San Diego designers MaeLin and Amy Levine. MaeLin and Amy (of San Diego Design firm Visual Asylum) masterminded the design behind the Urban Discovery Academy, a K-8 charter school in San Diego's burgeoning East Village neighborhood.

On Display

This week, Planar Systems gave SEGD's San Diego Chapter a sneak peak at their latest and greatest display technology. Wow. For starters, the content that displays on the new LED monitors is almost as crisp as HD video. Not to mention the fact that the monitors themselves are gorgeous--which was something of a paradox in the age of tube and even flat screen displays. Planar has practically done away with unsightly bezels and with the transparent OLED monitor (the undisputed star of the show) they've practically done away with monitors as we know them.

Surf's Up at Make

Make, San Diego

The co-working wave has hit San Diego, and it’s happening in typical surfer style. Make is a new 175,000-sq.-ft. workspace in a converted floral trade warehouse, just a short walk or bike ride to the beach. Rapt Studio worked with real estate developer Cruzan to envision a branded space where people will design and make things—and take their breaks on the waves.
