A celebration of the act of human communication and linguistic and cultural diversity, Voices was one of the main features of an international exposition. The exhibit aimed to draw attention to the conditions of liberty that are a foundation for the necessary dialogue among cultures. The exhibition needed to present two contradictory views: cultural diversity as a heritage we must preserve and communication as essential in an increasingly interdependent world.

With the opening of the new Newseum on Pennsylvania Avenue in April 2008, Washington has a new seven-level, 250,000-sq.-ft. museum dedicated to educating visitors about the importance of a free press in safeguarding our First Amendment rights.
The historic Freedom Rides of 1961, which ended in violence at the Greyhound Bus Station in Montgomery, Ala., were a key event in the American Civil Rights Movement. As the first step in an eventual renovation of the station, the Alabama Historical Commission sought to memorialize the site and present it as a key historical artifact.
Ralph Appelbaum Associates was tasked with designing an exhibit for the exterior of the bus station. The design team’s goal was to bring the story to life for visitors, many of whom were not of age or even born when it occurred.
Think: An Exploration Into Making The World Better
A cornerstone of IBM’s centennial year celebration, THINK was a multimedia exhibition that brought to life the many ways in which people are making the world work better through innovation. It was free to the public, drawing 25,000+ diverse visitors—from CEOs to school kids—in its month-long run at NYC's Lincoln Center.
The Natural History Museum of Utah has created a remarkably integrated suite of design components: the Ennead-designed building nestled in the foothills of the Wasatch Range, a series of 10 interconnected exhibitions designed by Ralph Appelbaum Associates that resonate with the natural setting, an interior and exterior wayfinding program by Poulin + Morris, brand identity by Infinite Scale, and landscape architecture by Design Workshop.
