The first Science Fiction Film Festival in Los Angeles, Sci-Fest LA is now an annual event dedicated to putting the spotlight on science fiction and fantasy films, and interactive entertainment from all around the world. The curated festival program includes everything from screenings to gala premieres, workshops, discussions, interactive game experiences, VR/AR presentations, exhibitions and a lot of quirky events and fun parties.

The Airport Cooperative Research Program (ACRP) Research Report 177: Enhancing Airport Wayfinding for Aging Travelers and Persons with Disabilities provides guidance to assist aging travelers and persons with disabilities to travel independently within airports using pedestrian wayfinding systems. The guidebook addresses travel by people with cognitive, sensory, and other mobility challenges. (from the Transportation Research Board website, www.trb.org)

 

Tapestry is a fifteen story multi-use building designed by Niall McLaughlin Architects in the heart of the King’s Cross regeneration area. It is a mix of public and private spaces, incorporating residential apartments, a multi-use games area, and a centralized car park. The building is dressed in a rich tapestry of ornament. The architecture has been inspired by the work of Owen Jones and his principles on decoration set out in The Grammar of Ornament.

In response to this tech company’s increasing need for flexibility and personality within their work spaces, the design team developed a strategy for this unique campus that could evolve with its users as business units changed and the workplace evolved.

Mandala Sunrise was designed to celebrate the unique and remarkable blending of cultures embodied by UTEP’s special relationship and cultural partnership with Bhutan. This partnership, combined with the natural environment of the southwest, was inspiration for the project theme: redefining these elements into a highly engineered yet lyrical installation.
