Fiberoptic Lighting - Magical Musical Christmas Murals

Fiberoptic Lighting (Grants Pass, Ore.) made the front page of their local paper, The Daily Courier, for creating the Magical Musical Christmas Murals that light up and play along Sixth and Seventh Avenues in Grants Pass. The annual public art display, provided by Evergreen Federal Bank, has graced the streets for several years. The fiberoptic Christmas murals are in their ninth year of spreading holiday cheer.

Formation Announces New Projects

Formation (The Woodlands, Texas) announced new projects based in Houston and Galveston, Texas: Baylor College of Medicine McNair Campus, Black Walnut Café, Moody Gardens Hotel, and First City Garage.Formation’s recent projects have included the Nationwide Children’s Hospital (Columbus, Ohio); the  CHOC Children's Hospital (Orange, Calif.); Cypress Circle, Houston Zoo; Le Bonheur Children's
 (Memphis, Tenn.); and The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion
(The Woodlands, Texas).

Frost* Design

Frost* Design (Sydney) won three significant prizes in the inaugural Sydney Design Awards. In the graphic design and urban design categories, Frost was recognized for their work creating an annual magazine for outdoor media company EYE Corp; a signage, wayfinding, and environmental graphics project commissioned by Rio Tinto; and an information kiosk in Chinatown for the City of Sydney.

GKD-USA - Capital Gate Tower in Abu Dhabi

GKD-USA (Cambridge, Md.) completed projects including the Capital Gate Tower in Abu Dhabi, the world’s furthest-leaning tower. Clad with custom GKD’s Tigris 2100, the stainless steel splash that descends from the 19th floor is a design element and shading device that eliminates more than 30% of the sun’s heat before it reaches the Capital Gate building. The splash also twists around the building toward the south to shield the tower as much as possible from direct sunlight.

Gnu Group at Saint Ignatius College Preparatory

GNU Group (Lafayette, Calif.) worked with Saint Ignatius College Preparatory on two commemorative projects. One recognizes donors whose contributions made possible the new George "Pat" Malley & Gene Lynch Coaches press box at J.B. Murphy Field. The other display recognizes the school’s graduates serving in the military and honors Admiral Callaghan, a class of 1907 graduate who was awarded the Medal of Honor for commanding a heroic victory during the Battle of Guadalcanal in the South Pacific.

Nova Polymers appointed Bob Greenberger as National Sales Executive

Nova Polymers (Fairfield, N.J.) appointed Bob Greenberger as National Sales Executive. He will provide sales and support for the firm’s complete line of signage and wayfinding products, including NovAcryl®, the industry’s leading material for accessible signage.

The firm also released an update to its Workflow Manager that corrects a few key issues relating to importing data and the justification of Braille; they also added a feature for the customization of Braille dot size.

Studio SC

Studio SC (Seattle) recently completed an environmental graphics program for the University of Washington’s Molecular Engineering Building. Drawing inspiration from the work done at the MEB, they created a graphic pattern that appears throughout the building, comprised of triangles that are deconstructed and reconstructed, forming an abstract representation of nanophotonic imaging.

Star Signs - Folly Theater Kansas City

Star Signs (Lawrence, Kans.) completed a new marquee sign for the Folly Theater in downtown Kansas City, Mo. The Folly worked closely with Star Signs in a design/build approach to create a design that not only complements the historic architecture of the building, but also creates a new icon for the city’s oldest operating theater. The theater management team was also interested in a low-maintenance and energy-efficient lighting system.
