SEGD 2012 ADA White Paper Update

The SEGD 2012 ADA White Paper Update, published in October 2012, addresses the signage requirements in the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design, the current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards published by the United States Department of Justice. The purpose of the SEGD 2012 ADA White Paper Update is to help the experiential design community meet the spirit and intent of the 2010 Standards for Accessible Design (SAD) guidelines. The 2010 Standards for Accessible Design became mandatory for newly constructed and altered facilities as of March 15, 2012, and are the revised regulations from the original ADA Standards issued by the United States Department of Justice in 1991.

Many SEGD members have served on what is now called the SEGD Accessible Design Task Force, since its inception in the late 1980’s. We are grateful to the extensive list of volunteers for their invaluable contributions and dedication to our community. The SEGD Accessible Design Task Force gives the SEGD community a voice at the federal level with seats on the U.S. Access Board Council, safeguarding the laws and regulations surrounding accessibility in the built environment, and contributing to industry progress by upholding and enhancing accessibility codes for the built environment.
