New Developments in Design Research and Education

It’s that time of year again, the
2022 Academic Summit will be kicking off three weeks from today! Want to join an amazing event that covers new developments in design research and education at no cost, make sure you grab your ticket today!
 

Yes, you heard it right, this event is entirely free and promotes the latest and greatest developments in design research and education. The SEGD Academic Summit  is a forum for trends in design education research, projects and curriculum innovation for design academics, students and researchers. This event is great for industry members as well to reconnect with the new ideas that are coming from researchers today.
 

This year’s event features 12 amazing presenters from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, including:

  • Neeta Verma is an Associate Professor in Visual Communication Design at the University of Notre Dame. A graphic designer, storyteller and a social advocate by profession, she has over 25 years of professional experience working exclusively for not-for-profits, museums and cultural institutions in New York, Albuquerque and India. Her teaching focuses on Social Design, Visualization of Data, and Fundamentals of Design and the aspects she promotes within those courses are critical thinking and innovation. She is a recent recipient of the prestigious 2022 Rev. William A. Toohey, C.S.C., Award for Social Justice and the 2021 Design Teaching Award by Design Incubation.
  • Yeohyun Ahn is an Assistant Professor of Graphic Design and Interaction Design at the University of Wisconsin Madison. As a designer, educator, and researcher, she  integrates creative coding, digital fabrication, and physical interaction into spatial typography and graphic design.  Her interdisciplinary typography project, TYPE + CODE Series, has featured through Washington Post, PRINT, New York Times Magazine, Letter Arts Review, Creator’s Project, Designboom.com, etc. It has published in the books, Graphic Design: the Basics, Type on Screen, and Data-Driven Graphic Design, and invited to research papers by Leonardo, EVA London, and IEEE VIS Arts. She currently explores generative self-portrait photographs for social homelessness being isolated and marginalized in professional areas of American society. 
  • Ciera Iveson is a designer and theatrical producer based in New York, originally from Reno, Nevada. She has 10 years of experience developing new theatrical works, including supporting the development of over 75 new musicals from first readings to world premiere productions around the world. Her passion for developing new stories led her to exhibition design, with an interest in combining the respective strengths of theater and exhibitions to make engaging stories for physical and virtual spaces. As the New Works Director for the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, she led a team of over 150 artists and staff to produce the Festival of New Musicals, including the fully virtual 2020 Festival, distributed worldwide on Broadway on Demand.
