Looking at Branded Environments and Xlab from a Student’s Point of View

Read Time: 1 minute

Since 2018, SEGD has invited FIT Graduate Exhibition and Experience design students to attend Xlab to explore cutting-edge of experience design, through a series of talks about new projects, experimentation, and emerging technologies within the experience design industry.

This year students were invited to the two-day SEGD Branded Environments and Xlab event to explore experience design and the Art of Storytelling. Students then were challenged to analyze and distill their experience at the event into a brief video or gif which conveys what resonated with them the most from the two-day experience. Then SEGD Staff voted on their top pick for the most concise and captivating video. The top pick is then awarded a small scholarship from SEGD.

This year’s selected winner is Emily Tse! Emily is currently a student in the Graduate Exhibition and Experience Design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Emily is interested in designing interactive experiences and has degrees in communication design and biomedical engineering.

Emily’s video titled, “Experience Design with Emerging Technologies” recaps what Emily learned at the 2022 SEGD Xlab event, set to the music “Ever Felt pt. 2” by Otis McDonald. Emily’s key takeaways from the event include:

  • Art prompts conversation
  • AR enhances experiences
  • “I can’t see my own blind spots.” by Phillip Tiongson, Potion
