Here’s a Snapshot of the 2020 M+L Take 20 Thought Leaders!

This year’s Management + Leadership Take 20 event is set to kick off the evening of April 23 with a virtual Mix + Mingle event and roll into April 24 with a full day of fresh ideas and an ambitious 19-person speaker line-up, all of whose work spans the globe. Learn from bright, innovative leaders who have made considerable impact in the EGD field and paved their own way for success! 

Our 2020 SEGD M+L Take 20 speakers will include:

Tamara Harkavy, Founder and Former CEO, ArtWorks: 

  • Over the course of 25 years, Tamara Harkavy oversaw ArtWorks growth from a small non-profit to Cincinnati’s largest public art program, creating a model for transforming people and places through investments in creativity.
  • Under Harkavy’s direction, the organization has completed more than 12,500 public and private art projects including 190 permanent outdoor murals, contributing to the region’s global reputation as an arts destination and an urban, outdoor gallery.

Andrew Salzbrun, Managing Partner, AGAR:

  • A partner in Experiential agency the AGAR, Salzburn leverages human experiences, event production, digital platforms, music, art, and content design to grow a brand’s culture.
  • A leader in the entrepreneurial community in Cincinnati, Salzbrun is a founding member of Unpolished, a platform for entrepreneurs to explore the intersection of faith and entrepreneurship. 

Abigail Honor, Partner, Lorem Ipsum: 

  • Honor has almost two decades of experience in storytelling through filmmaking, advertising, and museum design and installation.
  • She has crafted dynamic and inspiring narratives for corporations, organizations and institutions alike, using cutting-edge technology to communicate compelling and thoughtful messages.

Joseph Girandola, President, Art Academy of Cincinnati:

  • Joe Girandola is a professional artist who has exhibited work both nationally and internationally, some of which include the Red Bull Arts Center, NYC; ArtPrize(3X) Grand Rapids, MI; 1997 Kwangju Biennial, South Korea; and many others.
  • He has taught visual arts at Pomona College, University of the Arts, University of Cincinnati, Ohio and the Art Academy of Cincinnati. 

Kate Hanisian, Co-founder and Executive Director, Design Impact: 

  • Since starting Design Impact in 2009, Hanisian has grown the organization from a small idea to a full-fledged multi-disciplinary design team that uses innovative approaches to address pressing community needs.
  • Her journey has focused on the creation of inclusive learning environments that spark social change, the redesign of systems and services, and the building of partnerships across sectors. 

Philip Otto, Founder, Seeds and Growth: 

  • Creating systems, as well as spaces, that maximize value for design and construction has been a hallmark of Philip’s work since 1990.
  • As a cultural anthropologist turned designer Philip likes to explore the intersection between architecture, design, art and culture.

Reneé Seward, Founder, See Word Design, Associate Professor + Coordinator of Communication Design at the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art + Planning:

  • In addition to teaching typography, exhibition design, and graphic design, Reneé Seward founded See Word Design, a company that designs and produces digital tools to help people achieve reading literacy.
  • Seward is a Cincy Innovates winner and a ComSpark Rising Tech star. She and her company were recently awarded the Business Courier’s Best Software of the Year and the University of Cincinnati’s Emerging Entrepreneur of the Year, and were featured in Forbes magazine. 

Jim Herrera, Chief Entrepreneur, Perceptive Insights: 

  • Jim Herrera is a highly accomplished Senior Executive, Entrepreneur, Board Member, and Business Growth Strategy Thought Leader. 
  • Herrera has more than 30 years of success in multiple industries – computer software, advertising information, distance learning, interactive content, real estate and real estate investing.

Hannah Anderson, Construction Administrative Lead, Kolar Design, SEGD Board Member:

  • With over a decade of experience in experiential graphic design and leadership, Hannah oversees the successful detailing and implementation of design solutions through her Construction Administration Lead role at Kolar Design.
  • Anderson performs on the firm’s Operations Team, developing strategies and tools for studio improvement, efficiencies, workflow, and culture.

Blake Kishler, Designer, SEGD Cincinnati Chapter Co-Chair:

  • Blake Kishler is an Industrial and Experiential Graphic Designer with an exhibit design background and is fluent in multiple 2D and 3D media to communicate design and strategy in project-appropriate and impactful methods.
  • He is constantly working toward innovative new ways to translate brands and ideas into tactile, immersive experiences, with an emphasis on thoughtful technology integration.

Joell Angel-Chumbley, Creative Lead, Kolar Design:

  • Joell Angel-Chumbley has been active in the professional art and design community since the early 1990s with her work spanning the disciplines of visual art, print and environmental graphic design and public art.
  • Her site-specific installations and two/three-dimensional works weave together intersected layers of human experience, grounded in nature, history, and culture, and invite participants to discover the poetic depths of my creative environments.

Brittney Butler, Co-Founder and Creative Director, Iconograph:

  • With almost a decade of experience in the Experiential Graphic Design Industry, Brittney Butler works interactively with clients to develop and implement concepts for signage packages, wayfinding theming, and exhibits of various sizes, scales, and purposes.
  • Butler’s designs help create nurturing, navigable places where community members alike feel welcome and inspired.

Tristan Valencia, Founder and Principal, studio black:

  • Tristan Valencia has become a leader in producing permanent, interactive, digital installations.
  • Valencia has built his own firm, drawing upon his years of extensive networking of domestic and international resources perfectly blended with his innate ability for effectively and successfully addressing the objectives of his clients.

Valerie Jacobs, Chief Growth Officer, LPK:

  • Driving a constant state of evolution within LPK and the industry, Valerie Jacobs oversees business development, external relations and the ongoing creation and expansion of capabilities that give way to innovative new offerings for clients.
  • In her 15 years of leadership at LPK, formerly as Chief Insight & Innovation Officer, Valerie founded LPK’s trends and foresight practices, providing clients a deeper, future-forward consumer understanding while establishing a clear point of difference for the consultancy.

Alex Burkholder, Studio Director + Northwest Regional Brand Lead, Gensler:

  • With over 12 years of graphic, experience, and print design management, Alex Burkholder has made a career of enabling strategic, award-winning experiential graphic design & wayfinding.
  • As director of Gensler Seattle’s brand studio, Burkholder leads a team designing thoughtful solutions for workplace, cultural, exhibit and institutional clients. 

Joel Kashuba, Senior VP of Design + Innovation, Fifth Third Bancorp:

  • Joel’s role, as the head of innovation and design for Fifth Third Bancorp, is leading the bank to fully understand the customer to uncover new opportunities for the bank, and guiding the design team to create offerings that delight the customer and community.
  • Joel is a devoted teacher and coach who identifies and cultivates talent across teams. He came to the bank in 2017 to help drive an energetic and ambitious culture through innovation and execution.

Tysonn Betts, Design Director, Family Care at P&G Ventures:

  • A creative provocateur, and 20+ year veteran to the businesses of P&G, Tysonn Betts provides strategic leadership for the holistic integration of end to end design.
  • Betts has helped design, build, and launch some of the company’s biggest brands and iconic initiatives; where his work has been recognized both internally, and within the industry.

Kelly Kolar, Principal, Founder + CCO, Kolar Design:

  • Founding Kolar Design in 1990, Kelly Kolar set herself apart as a creative talent, using her love of design and understanding of the human element to transform built environments. 
  • Her firm creates impactful, branded experience at the intersection of people and place with clients that include Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, MercyHealth, Carnegie Melon University, The Ohio State University, and among many others. 

Serge Bruylants, Partner, Managing Director + Workplace Strategist, BrandSpace

  • As Global Architect of the Procter & Gamble Company, Bruylants was extensively involved in a wide range of major building projects across North America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia for more than 20 years.
  • He led an international community of practice with architects and designers who worked regularly for P&G, to foster cross-pollination, drive collaboration and accelerate design innovation.
