Metquarter, Liverpool

Practice Area

Project Vision

Metquarter is a premium retail and leisure destination that underwent a major refurbishment in 2019. The building was a former Victorian Post Office and sits within Liverpool’s main retail district.

The aim of the project was to deliver a signage scheme to suit the new luxury offerings of Metquarter. The scope of work included wayfinding strategy, design and planning, and manufacture through to full implementation.  The scheme included entrance signage, two feature totem signs, center directories, building identifiers and pictograms. Additionally, the project was completed on an incredibly tight timeframe of fewer than 60 days, without compromising quality.

The design concept comments on the two-sided nature of the building, where one entrance is modern, and the other with a traditional Victorian frontage. In response to this, two-tone Corian materials were paired with shot-blasted stainless steel to align with the contrasting entrances. The information design was kept simple, focusing on clean typography and bespoke pictograms. The system was intentionally kept simple and versatile in order to give the client the ability to easily update signage as the center continues to redevelop.
