The Challenge
A key challenge was connecting with the local community and understanding the historical migration of populations from the region into Hong Kong. Working together closely with the community, the museum, and a regional cultural expert enabled us to bridge the cultural gap and help us create an experience that resonates.
Project Vision
The exhibition offers the local community a permanent space to celebrate and discover interconnected cultural threads in accessible ways. Hong Kong’s South China roots and
cultural context are exemplified in the ‘Music Culture’ space, which commemorates iconic tunes and legendary musicians of Hong Kong.
In the ‘Diversity & Cultural Convergence’ gallery, the bold colour scheme highlights the vibrant collection of Mandarin Pop records and Cantonese Opera artefacts.
The Light Particles
A passage with dynamic screens offers visitors an immersive glimpse into the collective memories of significant events that shaped the mindsets of the Hong Kong public.

Design + Execution
The overall objective was to design impactful and immersive experiences through the careful selection of thematic display devices, simple yet clever graphic interventions, and beautifully displayed objects. Subtle, dynamic lighting adds the finishing touch to ensure a memorable experience.
The studio of Dr. Kan Tai-keung, one of Hong Kong’s most famous graphic designers and noted ink painters was relocated and installed within the gallery.
The Light Particles
‘Music Culture’ features a 360°concert with a circular LED screen above with displays of costumes, albums and instruments. It sets the scene for celebration and exploration of canto pop music.
The Light Particles
Within the ‘TV Culture’ space is an immersive projection; a timelapse of recognizable Hong Kong homes throughout the decades, allowing visitors a unique photo opportunity.
The Light Particles
The fluid forms of the display provide a fitting conclusion for the ‘Other Popular Culture’ gallery to suggest that culture is not something in the past but is current & evolving.
The Light Particles
The entry to the Pop 60+ gallery, conceived as a fun installation of series of stylized 3D media devices of an era gone by.
