Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta – Arthur M. Blank Hospital
The Arthur M. Blank Hospital, part of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, is a transformative pediatric healthcare facility that reimagines how design, technology and storytelling can encourage healing and celebrate generosity. As the only freestanding pediatric healthcare system in Georgia, the hospital serves as both a community beacon and a national leader in child-centered care. The environmental graphics and experiential design program blends calming visuals, playful custom artwork and interactive digital installations to enhance the emotional and physical well-being of young patients and their families.

Industry
From over 1,000 custom graphics inspired by Georgia’s landscapes to immersive donor recognition experiences, the hospital is infused with thoughtful details that bring joy, distraction and comfort. The design highlights include vibrant art installations, legacy artifacts from the former Egleston Hospital campus, and four distinct donor experiences—including a 47-foot tribute wall and a playful digital forest that gamifies philanthropy. This integrated approach connects past to present, art to technology and donors to mission in a space that’s both beautiful and deeply purposeful.
The Challenge
The biggest challenge was balancing the functional and emotional needs of a pediatric healthcare environment while aligning the expectations of both the client and the architecture team. The materials used—including wood and graphic wall protection—demanded meticulous attention to detail, particularly in color-matching across varied surfaces to maintain visual cohesion. The team also faced the technical complexity of integrating large-scale digital experiences within a hospital setting, ensuring they remained accessible, calming and engaging for a wide-ranging audience—from toddlers to grandparents.
Project Vision
The vision was to create a space where children feel safe, inspired and uplifted—where moments of stress could be softened by moments of wonder. Equally, the hospital aimed to create a bold new approach to donor recognition, one that invited interactivity and wove generosity into the fabric of the visitor experience. At its core, the vision was about connection: connecting patients with comfort, visitors with stories and donors with lasting impact. Every element was designed to express the hospital’s mission of exceptional care and community connection through an environment that supports healing and hope.

Design + Execution
The design approach centered on storytelling and emotional resonance. Drawing from Georgia’s natural topography, the environmental graphics immerse visitors in familiar, soothing landscapes while introducing playful “easter eggs” and animal illustrations to spark curiosity. Simultaneously, the donor recognition program was crafted as a digital-first, interactive experience with layered content that invites participation. Executed in close coordination with architects, engineers and fabricators, the team ensured cohesion across analog and digital touchpoints. The result is a beautifully orchestrated environment that celebrates the hospital’s mission through art, innovation and immersive experiences—turning a clinical space into a destination of healing and community pride.
