Berlin Brandenburg Airport

Wayfinding at Berlin Brandenburg Airport. As airports around the world become more complex, passenger wayfinding is becoming more important Since October 2020 the Berlin Brandenburg Airport one of the largest and most complex transport infrastructure
projects in Germany, is open for operation. The design firm was commissioned for the airport wayfinding system – set up to handle 50 million passengers a year. It artfully combines function with brand identity and provides a framework for the entire BER
campus. The wayfinding system consists of basic elements – information design: color, font, pictograms and product design that transport the identity of the Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The lines that make up the letters and pictograms create graduated shades of color that create a hierarchy without having to introduce additional color. The system works across all three terminal buildings and into the outdoor areas such as the Airport City or the multistory carparks. Even the road signs feature the same design. A seamless, consistent chain of information allows passengers to proceed step by step, easy finding of the targets.

The architectural patterns were incorporated into the orientation system and refined for the
graphics. In this way, the orientation system is optimally integrated into the architecture.

The ruled lines, particularly on large letters, prevent them from be ing too bright, and provide the perfect contrast for the back lit signs.

The lines visualize the behavior of air flow, the force which gives the aircraft its lift.
