Sustainability is fundamentally critical for our organization and our industry. To elevate this conversation and build into the foundation of our organization, SEGD is pleased to announce the new SEGD Sustainability Committee. SEGD Board Members Bosco Hernández, Design Director at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and David Siegel, Director of Sales + Marketing Operations at Designtex, are championing the efforts, with additional support from SEGD members Peter Muller from Gensler in Seattle and Joel Krieger from Magic Leap.
The initial focus will be to establish the committee’s vision, mission, and goals. The committee members will also work to create internal and external communications on climate change, and the need to decarbonize our organization and our industry. Whether it’s in the materials we specify, produce, or install, or it’s to contribute to creating more well spaces for people to visit, our efforts will support a more sustainable environment and aim to improve the human condition across the globe.
The SEGD Sustainability Committee will channel the best minds in our industry to create shared resources and an action plan to support reducing the adverse environmental impact of our work while expanding on the wellness attributes of experience design. As a multidisciplinary organization, we expect to borrow best practices from other industries and share the best practices we develop with others.
“Outreach, engagement, and transparency with our membership and beyond will be a core principle for the committee—from exploring regular segments at the SEGD Annual Conferences to supporting events at the Chapter level,” says SEGD Sustainability Co-Chair David Siegel.
