A Message from Outgoing SEGD President Kathy Fry

2023 SEGD Board of Directors

Dear SEGD Community,

As we near the end of 2023, I am wrapping up my two-year term as SEGD President and reflecting on the pivotal moment in which I served our community. SEGD was founded 50 years ago to create a space for environmental graphic design knowledge sharing. This community has expanded and continues today to foster collaboration and design excellence for generations to come. The strength of the organization is in its ability to mark the 50th milestone with a demonstration of evolution to remain vital to our membership’s needs.

I’m proud to support this evolution. During my time as President, we updated the SEGD strategic plan, established robust committees to support the vision and mission, and launched a new website and member platform. SEGD, at its core, is a member organization supported by the sponsorship, involvement, and volunteer efforts of its members. Your engagement elevates our profession and experience design. I hope in this coming year, you find time to engage in our new member platform to access real time connections, resources and to build community.

Thank you Cybelle Jones, CEO, for your vision and commitment to SEGD and the experience design profession. You are a connector of ideas and people.

Thank you to our sponsors who provide the financial support to provide programming and services for our members.

Thank you to the small, but mighty SEGD staff that do so much, with a little. Jennette Forman, Nadia Adona, Mark Daigle, Liz Griswold and Melissa Russell—we can see that you genuinely love our members! A special thank you and best wishes to departing Sarah Miorelli and Kristin Bennani.

Thank you to the SEGD Board of Directors, SEGD Chapter Chairs, committee members, those who presented at our events and Voices this year, and to the volunteers who supported young designers. You make SEGD a rich experience.

Please join me in welcoming Traci Sym, Principal, +&> in Portland, Oregon as President and Bosco Hernández, Design Director at SFMOMA as Vice President. They bring new perspectives to SEGD leadership and I’m excited to support their work in an advisory role until my Board term is complete in 2025.

Happy holidays to all, near and far! I look forward to connecting with you all at an SEGD event or on Glue Up in 2024!

Best,

Kathy H. Fry
