I was born in Connecticut and grew up in Houston, Texas. I earned a BFA in Sculpture from the Kansas City Art Institute in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1980, and a Master of Architecture from the University of Houston Graduate School of Architecture in Houston, Texas, in 1983. I began my architectural career at HKS in Dallas, where I worked for approximately two years before moving to South Georgia, where I have lived, worked, and got married ever since. I later became a partner in a small South Georgia architectural firm, managing distinctive, one-of-a-kind upscale projects for 28 years, including K–12 schools, university buildings, hybrid government facilities, hospitality projects, and retail developments. In 2024, I founded 3-C McClure Architects, LLC, to practice in a more holistic way by bringing architecture, interior design, and landscape design together under one roof. The name “3-C” stands for these three disciplines, which are central to my design work and closely interconnected. A linear approach no longer makes sense, because everything architects and designers create affects the broader environment. Sustainable design and whole-building design are at the heart of 3-C McClure Architects, LLC.
