Gerald Sastra is a graduate student in the Interior Architecture program at the Rhode Island School of Design, where he is pursuing a concentration in Exhibition and Narrative Environments. As an emerging professional in experiential and environmental graphic design, Gerald is interested in the ways design can foster belonging, support inclusivity, and create meaningful connections between people and the spaces they inhabit.
Gerald began his design journey at the University of Houston, where he earned his undergraduate degree and first discovered his passion for experience design. There, he developed a foundation in visual communication and spatial thinking that continues to shape his approach to environmental graphics and storytelling.
Before beginning graduate studies, Gerald gained professional experience at HOK, a global architecture and design firm, where he contributed to projects that integrated branding, placemaking, and narrative within the built environment. His work at HOK reinforced his belief in the power of design as a collaborative practice—one that balances creativity, strategy, and empathy to serve diverse communities.
At RISD, Gerald continues to explore how interior architecture and environmental graphics intersect to create immersive and socially conscious environments. His academic work builds on both his undergraduate foundation and professional practice, allowing him to experiment with new methodologies, materials, and technologies.
