Chris Calori and David Vanden-Eynden are co-founders and principals of Calori & Vanden-Eynden(New York).
David Vanden-Eynden grew up in the suburbs outside of Cincinnati OH. A childhood filled with curiosity and tinkering led him to The Ohio State University where he earned a BS in Industrial Design with a Visual Communications major. After graduation, he moved to San Francisco where the design scene was more challenging than Columbus. After a four-year stint in San Francisco, he moved to New York (“If you want to run with the big dogs you have to get off the porch,” he says) and together with Chris Calori, his lifelong partner, formed Calori & Vanden-Eynden, Ltd. The firm specializes in environmental graphic design (EGD) and has had the good fortune to have completed projects throughout the US and Asia. Early practitioners of EGD, David and Chris helped establish the field as an integral component of the built environment. David has been recognized as one of the 25 most influential designers in the field of EGD. David Vanden-Eynden has a broad range of signage design and management skills for a wide variety of project types. He was instrumental in developing C&VE’s techniques for conceptualizing, detailing, and documenting the physical components of sign programs, and coordinates the details of large-scale signage projects. Key projects for them include the City of Tianjin Riverfront Wayfinding and Heritage Trail Signage System, China; Washington DC Heritage Trail Signage System; Inventure Place/National Inventors Hall of Fame, Akron, OH; One Raffles Link and One Raffles Quay, Singapore; and the Amtrak Nationwide Station signage initiative.
