Christian Marc Schmidt is the Founder and Managing Partner of Schema Design, a design and technology firm pioneering the next generation of intelligent interfaces for frontier technologies. With teams in Seattle and New York, Schema transforms complex data into breakthrough tools and experiences that empower people to make informed decisions and take action.
Prior to founding Schema in 2012, Christian served as a Senior Designer at Microsoft, where he led product development for a local-commerce mobile pilot and set design direction for next-generation augmented reality applications. As Design Lead for Bing, he shaped browse-based user experiences for the search engine. As an Associate Partner at Pentagram, Christian led design for notable projects including the user interface for the One Laptop per Child laptop, included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Arts and Design in New York, and the interface for Litl’s consumer netbook. At IDEO, he developed user-centered design programs for clients ranging from Bank of America to Children’s Hospital Oakland.
Christian holds a BFA from Parsons School of Design and an MFA from Yale University School of Art. A TED speaker and frequent presenter at design and industry conferences, his work has received recognition from D&AD, AIGA, SEGD, Communication Arts, Print Magazine, and IDSA. He has taught at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program, Cornish School of the Arts, and the University of Washington’s Visual Communication Design program, and frequently conducts workshops at design programs worldwide, including the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest.
