Takeform Transforms American University’s Meltzer Center with Experiential Environmental Graphics

Interior views of American University’s Meltzer Center featuring large American University athletics wall graphics, a basketball court with AU logo, bold red and blue environmental branding, motivational typography wall with values like integrity and hard work, and a strength training area with “American” lettering and turf flooring.

In a recent case study, Takeform partnered with American University to design experiential graphics for The Meltzer Center at American University in Washington, DC.

American University’s Meltzer Center serves as a central hub for student life. It brings together dining, events, and daily campus activity. The design challenge was to energize the space while reinforcing the university’s brand.

Takeform created a bold environmental graphics system that integrates large-scale typography, layered messaging, and vibrant school colors. The design moves across walls and gathering areas, creating clear visual zones and moments of impact. Every element supports wayfinding and strengthens school pride.

The result is a cohesive interior that feels welcoming and connected. Students and visitors experience a strong sense of place from the moment they enter. The graphics do more than decorate. They communicate identity and support how people move through the space.

This project shows how experiential graphic design can transform high-traffic campus interiors. When branding and architecture work together, the outcome builds community and reinforces mission.

Takeform continues to lead in environmental graphics for education and public environments. The Meltzer Center at American University is a clear example of how design can connect people to place.
