Mayer/Reed Landscape Design Shapes Oregon State Capitol Plaza

Mayer/Reed’s landscape design helped transform the Oregon State Capitol entry in Salem into a welcoming and universally accessible civic plaza.

The new public space supports gatherings, daily use, and a stronger connection to place. “Oregon Voices” serves as a centerpiece of the plaza. The art installation features words from Tribal Leaders, Elders, and Culture Bearers. These words appear on 11 monumental boulders within the landscape.

The plaza dedication took place on May 26. Members and leaders of Oregon tribes spoke at the event. A related Mayer/Reed article, “From the Quarry to the Capitol,” shares more about the boulder selection, stonework, and design process.
