Jody Graff Presents Botanical Quilt Installation at Andalusia Historic House

SEGD member Jody Graff is presenting new work at Andalusia Historic House, Gardens & Arboretum as part of the Radical Americana exhibition.

Graff’s installation features three large-scale, two-sided narrative quilts displayed on the grounds of the gardens. Created using pressed botanical materials collected on-site, the work translates natural forms into geometric patterns that reflect the history of the land, the Biddle family, and the surrounding Philadelphia region.

Each quilt combines traditional patchwork structures with research-driven storytelling. While the front surfaces highlight bold, abstract compositions made from hand-cut leaves, the reverse sides share the process, inspiration, and historical context behind each piece. As a result, the installation invites visitors to slow down and engage more closely with both the environment and the narratives embedded within it.

The exhibition is part of Radical Americana, organized by The Clay Studio, which brings together artists responding to American identity through craft and cultural history. At Andalusia, Graff’s work is uniquely situated outdoors, creating a direct connection between the artwork and the landscape that inspired it.
