Designing for Brain Health: Join SEGD for BrainHealth Week 2025

SEGD joins a powerful movement to explore how design can support cognitive well-being.

Science shows that brain gains are possible at every stage of life. Rather than focusing on decline, disease, and doubt, we want people to feel empowered to proactively improve their brain’s fitness through simple daily practices that make a difference.

Instead of focusing on how many things you checked off your list today, shift towards the measures that matter most—Were you more innovative? More purpose-driven? More socially fulfilled?

BrainHealth Week 2025

Building on our recent exploration of healing in design, SEGD is thrilled to invite our community to participate in BrainHealth Week 2025. This initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Sandra Chapman—our keynote speaker at the 2024 SEGD Experience Dallas Conference—emphasizes the profound impact of design on cognitive well-being.

Dr. Chapman, in collaboration with our 2023 SEGD Fellow Bruce Mau, has been at the forefront of advancing the dialogue on how the built environment influences brain health. Her keynote was the highest-rated session of the conference, underscoring the enthusiasm and engagement of our members on this topic.

As a special gift to our community, we are excited to share the video of Dr. Chapman’s keynote. We encourage SEGD members to explore how they can champion brain health in design and take part in upcoming events both in person and virtually.

How to Participate

Even if you are not based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, there are multiple ways to engage with BrainHealth Week. SEGD is a proud partner in this initiative, and members can participate by partnering with the event and receiving a toolkit to take the BrainHealth Pledge. This year’s events focus on key themes such as designing for brain health, the art of neuroscapes, and creating environments that support cognitive well-being.

SEGD encourages all members to get involved in promoting cognitive well-being through thoughtful design. Whether you attend in person or participate virtually, your engagement helps drive forward the conversation on how our spaces shape our minds. Sign up here and let’s work together to make brain health a core focus of our design community!
