Arthur King Consulting and MS Signs Completes Project for the The Roosevelt Island Racquet Club

The Roosevelt Island Racquet Club is located under the 59th Street bridge in NY. They carried out a project in 2017 to protect the structure from salt and sand falling from the bridge above.

This included a new 10’ high parapet along the Manhattan façade. Arthur King delivered concepts for the branding at that time, but it was not authorized until 2021.

When the project was revived, Arthur worked with his designer son in Oslo on the typography. A new directional sign was designed to help guide from the Tram, eye-level signs on two sides function from north and south approaches and the principal sign was created facing Manhattan. Internally illuminated letters are 30”and 40” high. LED’s are on the warm side to function in the fog/high humidity environment.

After 25 years of operation RIRC now has a presence on the island, from the tram and from Manhattan.

MS Signs was selected partly because of their experience on Roosevelt Island in the past.
