Dublin’s architecture blends medieval, Georgian, and contemporary styles, creating a dynamic visual landscape. From the elegant symmetry of Georgian squares to the bold modernity of Docklands, the city offers rich inspiration for graphic designers, exhibition designers, architects, wayfinders, media developers, creative technologists, and fabricators. Layered histories, intricate facades, and evolving urban spaces make Dublin a compelling design canvas.

On Friday, our talks are being held at the prestigious Irish Georgian Society at City Assembly House. The City Assembly House, located on historic South William Street in Dublin’s South Georgian Core, was built between 1766-71 by the Society of Artists in Ireland, as the first public exhibition gallery in Ireland and Britain.

The itinerary will include:

Day one (April 3, starting at 1:00 pm):

An informative walking tour of the architecture of Dublin, by Arron Henderson of Dublin Decoded, followed by a fish and chip supper. There will be an opportunity to network in the evening.

Day two (April 4, ending at 1:00pm):

Meet at the Irish Georgian Society for our first insightful talk on the heritage and evolution of the Georgian Dublin. Charles Duggan is Heritage Officer for Dublin City Council, where he works collaboratively with a wide range of partners to promote the research, interpretation and presentation of aspects of the capital city’s architectural, archaeological, social and cultural heritage. Working under the auspices of the Dublin City Strategic Heritage Plan (2024 -2029), he has established a number of pioneering research projects undertaken by leading historians, which will be published in the coming years. These projects include: ‘Decorative Plasterwork, the Dublin School (1740s–1770s)’ and an accompanying conservation guidance document; he has commissioned a major publication series on Dublin’s Wide Streets Commissioners; and ‘Built to Last: Energy Efficiency in pre-1945 Dwellings in Dublin’. In 2011 he established the C20th Architecture project, published in three volumes of More Than Concrete Blocks. He has recently project-managed the creation of the 14 Henrietta Street museum, and the Saint Luke’s graveyard restoration and park project, and is about to embark on a Conservation Management Plan for monuments and public sculpture on Dublin’s O’Connell street and College Green.

This will be followed with our second talk: Maggie Law, Head of Design, EMEA at Electrosonic (our sponsors) will lead the way, giving us inspiration for integrating digital technology and experiences in conservation settings – Electrosonic create innovative experiences by fusing architecture, storytelling and technology. Maggie is a highly experienced designer whose role is to guide, curate and direct Electrosonic’s innovation – to design, build and support innovative technology solutions through exceptional design as it becomes a reality every day for our clients. She comes from a global consultancy background of leading multi-discipline design teams. Maggie believes that getting people to unfold their stories, pain points and aspirations is as much part of the role as supporting development, inspiring innovation and creating unique solutions.

There will be ample time for questions and networking, refreshments will be provided along with a light buffet lunch after.
