A Landmark for AAPI History – Design, Dim Sum and District Pride: 9/20 @ 12
Sep 20, 2025Dear Friends and Community Builders,
What do you get when you mix civic design, cultural storytelling, and a whole lot of community heart?
You get: Design, Dim Sum and District Pride.
Join us for an inspiring afternoon as we explore how the first-ever Asian-themed civic landmark sign in the City of San Diego was designed, built, and brought to life in the bold and vibrant Convoy District.
This landmark isn’t just made of steel and light. It’s made of heritage, belonging, and collective pride, honoring the decades of resilience, entrepreneurship, and cultural exchange that transformed Convoy into one of the largest Pan-Asian districts in the U.S.
What you’ll walk away with:
● How to authentically engage immigrant communities in the design of civic landmarks
● How to brand a district in a way that tells stories across generations
● How the AAPI community made history—together.
Light bites will be provided. Common Theory will be open and available for additional food and beverage purchases. We encourage all participants to support this local business and those in the area! No outside food or beverages allowed.
Event Date: Saturday, Sept. 20
Event Time: 12:00–2:00PM
This event is part of San Diego Design Week 2025.
We’re proud to join San Diego Design Week 2025, returning Sept 17–21 as the region’s premier design festival. Through exhibitions, workshops, talks, and tours, SDDW transforms the city into a living design lab.
This year’s theme, Design for Impact, highlights how bold, purposeful solutions that strengthen communities, spark innovation, and deliver lasting change.
