Robert is a design firm partner who reneged on a deal to elevate a junior partner. Surprising as it is, that scenario is common. Over the years consulting with design firms and running my own, I’ve seen problems that, like Robert’s, are all too human but could have easily been avoided. |

By now you’ve probably seen those silver, black and blue monoliths on the streets of Manhattan. Looking like giant cell phones, they’re part of LinkNYC,the communication network CityBridge has installed in New York City as a replacement for 7,500 pay phones. These 10,000 electronic slabs are also something else: an early and somewhat faltering step on the road to the Smart City, dressed up now as a new class of street fixture. |

On the subject of "going digital," many organizations are on the spectrum. Unless you are one of those Luddites at the shore throwing spears to keep the digerati boats at bay, by now you get the rationales for going digital, but what you may not realize is that the rate of change is exponential. |

By Josh Goldblum, Bluecadet In a few months in Philadelphia, a new Warby Parker store will open in a space formerly occupied by the Le Bec-Fin. This restaurant, led by Chef Georges Perrier, was once widely considered one of the best in the world, but it famously refused to change with the times—and paid the price. With Warby Parker’s move into physical spaces, I’d argue the brand is doing the opposite. |
