Teknion IIDEX Exhibit 2006

Merit Award

The theme for IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2006 was sustainability. Teknion’s goal for the exhibit was to bring focused attention to its leadership in sustainable development.

Every aspect of Teknion’s exhibit was designed with its responsibility to sustainability in mind. Materials included MDF and plywood (both 100% certified by the Forest Stewardship Council), metals with high recycled content, and water-based finishes. Bold green-painted panels featured the Teknion wordmark and environmental commitment statement on one side, and blackboard surfaces with hand-written notes on sustainability on the other. Rows of miniature trees on simple white pedestals made a dramatic statement about the effects of natural resource consumption, and each pedestal described a step Teknion has taken in its commitment to sustainability.

The booth was manufactured locally. At the end of the show, the trees were donated to Orphan Spaces, a Toronto program in partnership with the Design Exchange, and booth components were stored for future use. Flooring and other elements were re-used over multiple years. Furniture and Teknion’s Optos Glass Wall System are GreenGuard and Eco Logo-certified. As part of the exhibit concept, Teknion LEED-accredited professionals shared their insights and knowledge with visitors so that together, we all can make a difference.

Jury Comments:

“A beautiful balance of message intent, clarity, and appropriateness of execution within the tradeshow environment. The simplicity of color and design elements reinforces the brand and what it stands for.”
