Project Vision

AFROPUNK Festival is a music festival/human rights movement, described by the New York Times as “the most multicultural festival in the US.”

The word AFROPUNK has become synonymous with an open-minded, non-conforming and unconventional community, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music.

My challenge was to find a way to introduce their voice as a music festival and human rights movement at the same time. And create an identity system that is very unique and has social impact.

To that end, the student designer created a custom typeface, APF Display, designed for the logo and the whole identity system. Focusing on individuals and the positive energy of their community and music, the system represents the festival’s unique sensibility, forming its own visual language in a very playful way.
