2026 SEGD Educator Award

The SEGD Educator Award recognizes academic members who have demonstrated the cultivation and practice of design across SEGD practice areas, namely experiential and environmental graphic design, interaction design, exhibition design, creative technology, installation, and public good projects. Past recipients include Timothy McNeil, Neeta Verma, Dr. Elizabeth (Dori) Tunstall, and Yeohyun Ahn.

Debra Satterfield

Debra Satterfield is a Professor of Design at California State University, Long Beach, with extensive research and publications in design for social inclusion, behavioral change, neurodiversity, social justice, and accessibility. She is an Ambassador with the International Society of Service Innovation Professionals, a member of SEGD’s academic advisory board, and a member of the scientific advisory board for the Human Side of Service Engineering.

Satterfield leads DESIGN CARES, an initiative supporting student workshops, a micro-food pantry, design outreach for social justice, and a design materials exchange, aimed at improving success for at-risk students in the Design Department.
