Celebrate International Design Day with a collaborative design charrette supporting the Garden Center at Sugar House Park. This design charrette explores the International Design Day theme “Spaces In Between”—the connections between disciplines, people, and place—by bringing together designers across Marketing, Branding, and Architecture to collaborate on a shared vision for the building. After a brief project introduction from members of the Sugar House Park Authority (SHPA), each discipline/team will be led by a local design professional. Come contribute your ideas, connect with the creative community, and make a meaningful impact towards Sugar House Park through design. Learn more about this year’s theme here!

A little about the Garden Center:

Located at the Northeast corner of Sugar House Park, the Garden Center was built in the 1960’s as a hub for horticultural education and community gatherings. It was established through the efforts of the Utah Associated Garden Clubs. The building itself is owned by Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County and has recently come under management by the SHPA (a non-profit board of volunteers who oversees park operations). As part of the transfer of management, there is an opportunity to rethink what the building does, who it serves, and how it can support the community. The results of the design charrette will be presented to the SHPA as they work determine the next chapter of the building.

The event will be hosted at Elevate’s offices, located in the Central 9th neighborhood at 160 W 900 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. The office is near the 900 S 200 W Trax Station served by the Red, Blue, and Green Line trains and along the 9 Line bike path! Doors will open at 6pm. Please invite any design or community minded friends who are interested in contributing ideas and meeting other design professionals!
