Takeform Designs Healing Pediatric Surgical Suite Environment

A healing pediatric surgical suite environment helps young patients feel safer and more comfortable during medical care. Takeform recently helped create this kind of experience through environmental graphics and signage for the pediatric surgical suites at Bakersfield Memorial Hospital’s Lauren Small Children’s Center.
Healthcare spaces for children require thoughtful design that balances advanced medical care with warmth and reassurance.
Creating a Child-Focused Healthcare Experience
The new pediatric surgical suite adds approximately 5,000 square feet of dedicated care space, including operating rooms and specialized recovery areas. Takeform supported the project by designing environmental graphics that transform clinical corridors and waiting areas into welcoming environments.
Instead of sterile surroundings, the design introduces engaging visuals that create moments of distraction and comfort for young patients. These graphics also help families and visitors navigate the space more easily through clear wayfinding.
By combining storytelling, color, and intuitive signage, the design supports both emotional wellbeing and functional navigation throughout the surgical suite.
Design That Supports Healing
Projects like this demonstrate how experiential design can contribute to healthcare environments that reduce stress and improve the patient experience. Takeform’s work helps create a space where children, families, and care teams can feel more at ease.
