Monterey Bay Aquarium has named Emily Saich as vice president of exhibitions, effective immediately. She has been in the role on an interim basis and was selected following an extensive national search.

“Emily’s experience in a wide variety of museums leading multidisciplinary teams makes her uniquely qualified to honor the Aquarium’s legacy of integrating art into inspiring science-driven exhibitions and innovative displays of living collections,” said Brad Rutherford, the Aquarium’s executive vice president and deputy director. “She is also a creative and empathetic leader. We are thrilled to have her lead our exhibitions division.”

“My early childhood experiences tidepooling on the Monterey Peninsula and visiting the Aquarium, when it opened 40 years ago has led to a lifetime appreciation for marine life and awareness of the importance of conserving our ocean,” said Saich. “Joining the Aquarium team in 2018, leading the exhibitions division as interim vice president, and working alongside Julie Packard and other visionaries has been a career dream come true for me.  I’m excited to bring creative vision and leadership to our team for years to come as the next vice president of exhibitions.”

With more than 20 years of experience creating exhibitions for a variety of museums and cultural organizations, Saich first joined the Aquarium as senior manager of exhibitions projects. Throughout her tenure, she has cultivated a high-performing creative culture, managing and mentoring staff and colleagues, establishing key roles and initiatives around innovation and accessibility. She has delivered outstanding projects, including Into the Deep: Exploring our Undiscovered Ocean/En lo Profundo: Explorando Nuestro Océano Desconocido, winner of the 2023 Association of Zoos & Aquariums’ Innovation Award.
