Design can help strengthen society’s well-being, its power lies in creating a healing experience.

Event will explore the synergy between design and aspects of wellbeing and health within the built environment. Four expert speakers will share their insights and uncover meaningful stories from their projects, showing how wellbeing can be fostered among professional athletes, public transport passengers, hospital patients, and retirement home residents.

Darlene van Uden – Performance meets Peace

Darlene van Uden will share the Elevate’s recently completed work on the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs training facility that has resulted in their players spending more time at the facility with their teammates and families.

Martin Foessleitner – Memories XL

A project carried out in a retirement home opened the door to meaningful connections and sparked a new kind of mutual understanding between residents, their relatives, and the staff. Martin Foessleitner will share the outcomes of the project, showing how a space can create meaningful touchpoints to promote wellbeing and shift attitudes.

Fenne Roefs – Sound & Wayfinding

The auditory experience of public spaces usually receives little attention. Soundscapes are rarely designed intentionally; instead, they arise more or less by chance from acoustics, ambient noise, and audio signals. Fenne Roefs will present her research project, in which she explores how thoughtful, well-crafted sound design could enhance accessibility, navigability, and the overall travel experience at train stations.

Ieva Timoško – Guided by Story: Environmental Graphics and Interior Design for the Children’s Clinical University Hospital

A look at how storytelling was brought to life through environmental graphics and interior design to create a safe, welcoming, and child-friendly environment at the Children’s Clinical University Hospital’s Emergency and Outpatient Health Center. Playful visuals and intuitive wayfinding help reduce stress for young patients, making the hospital space more engaging, comforting, and healing.
