Accessibility at 2024 SEGD Conference Experience Dallas
We are committed to ensuring the SEGD Conference is designed to be inclusive and accessible for all attendees. Below is detailed information regarding accessibility features, accommodations, and how to request specific services.
To submit any accommodation requests, please contact Jennette Foreman at Jennette@segd.org.
Accessible Transit
The Fairmont Dallas provides a shuttle service to and from the airport; however, it does not include a lift for mobility aids. If you require a shuttle with a lift, please contact the hotel directly.
Hotel Accessibility
- Accessible Rooms: The Fairmont Dallas offers accessible guest rooms equipped with roll-in showers, grab bars, and other features to accommodate guests with mobility needs. Please contact the hotel directly for room requests.
- Service Animals: The hotel welcomes service animals and has designated relief areas nearby.
- Wheelchair Access: The hotel is fully wheelchair-accessible, with elevators to all floors and meeting rooms.
Please note that the hotel does not provide a dedicated lactation room; however, special accommodations can be made upon request. Contact us at the registration counter or Jennette@segd.org for assistance.
American Sign Language (ASL)
We currently do not provide ASL interpretation services; however, they can be arranged upon request. If you need an interpreter for sessions or networking events, please contact us at least one week before the conference to ensure your needs are accommodated.
Captioning
CART (human-generated) captioning will be available upon request for all sessions. Please notify us at least one week in advance if you require captioning services.
Visual Descriptions
We aim to have speakers verbally describe any visual content during their presentations, although we cannot guarantee 100% compliance. If you require additional accommodations, please contact Jennette@segd.org before the event.
Sensory Friendly Accommodations
A quiet, sensory-friendly room will be available for attendees who need a space to recharge. This room is located in the Directors Room on the second floor of the Fairmont Dallas near the Regency Ballroom. Access can be arranged at the SEGD Conference registration counter upon request.
Tours and Mobility
A significant part of the Thursday afternoon SEGD Conference experience includes tours to local sites. Some tours require bus and/or public transportation, while others involve walking or biking. Please see below for tour access and mobility details:
- Dallas Bike Tour – Transportation by bus to the starting point (must be able to ride a two-wheeled bicycle for two hours).
- Dallas Star, Center for BrainHealth, Fort Worth Stockyards, – Shuttle bus provided.
- Fair Park Dallas – Walking from the hotel and public transit
- AT&T Discovery District Walking Tour, Dallas Art Museum, Dallas Holocaust & Human Rights Museum, Dallas Public Art Walking Tour, Perot Museum – Walking from the hotel.
- Design Improv – Located within the hotel
Once on site, each tour will require significant walking and periods of standing. For attendees who may have difficulty walking long distances, we recommend participating in the Design Improv Workshop, which will take place at the hotel. Please contact Jennette Foreman, Director of Operations at jennette@segd.org, if you need to switch your tour to remain on-site and attend Design Improv.
Outdoor Events
While most of our networking events will be held indoors, the Global Design Awards Reception on Friday evening will be hosted outdoors at the Fairmont Roof Garden. This is the only social event with outdoor seating, which is limited. All other receptions, including the President’s Reception and NEXPO Reception, will take place indoors, with limited seating.
COVID-19 Information
Masking is welcome but not required at the SEGD Conference. If you have any symptoms or if you should be isolated, please do not attend the conference. Nearly all networking events will take place indoors, except the Global Design Awards Reception hosted at the Fairmont Roof Garden.
For any additional needs or accommodations, please contact Jennette Foreman at Jennette@segd.org.
